Grid-Tie and Microinverters
How to choose grid-tie and microinverters
Two ways to tie panels to the grid. A string inverter takes a whole string of panels into one box. Microinverters sit under the panels, one per two or four panels, so shade on one panel doesn't drag the others down. Match the microinverter's input to your panel's wattage, and match the AC side to your service: 240 V split phase for most homes, 208 V three phase for some commercial buildings. In Calgary, connecting to the grid takes an electrical permit and a licensed contractor.
